EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) – the assessment of effects on the environment is a tool for assessing and evaluating impacts of proposed activities on all components of the environment, including human population

In early September 2013, Jadrova energeticka spolocnost Slovenska has signed a contract with the winner of the tender for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) elaborator. The multinational company AMEC was chosen to be the elaborator.

EIA is considered to be one of the main instruments of international environmental policy of sustainable development. It has been already implemented for more than three decades in developed countries.

It is based on the following principles:

In the Slovak Republic the assessment has been carried out since 1994, when Act of the National Council of the Slovak Republic No. 127/1994 Coll. on Environmental Impact Assessment came into force.

At present Act No. 24/2006 Coll. on Environmental Impact Assessment and on amendments and supplements to certain acts applies, which came into force on 1st February 2006. It comprehensively regulates the environmental impact assessment, strategic documents assessment and impact assessment of constructions, facilities and other activities on the environment. The Act provides for the full harmonisation with EU legislation and with international conventions the Slovak Republic is bound by.
